There’s a world of difference between PLAYING TO WIN in your coaching and playing to NOT lose.
Playing to not lose is passive, it means making fear-based decisions, it means crappy boundaries (and we know how that goes!), it means saying yes to clients when you should be saying “no”, and it means NEVER realising the potential that lies within you or your coaching business.
Back in my fight days I spent a lot of time around other fighters, I watched a LOT of fights….it was easy to spot the players who played to win and it was also obvious who was simply trying not to lose.
Those players didn’t take risks, they played it safe…sometimes they won but not often…either way it wasn’t great to watch.
I loved the fighters who were playing to win, those who took risks and delighted in the result when those risks paid off.
I remember what I consider one of my greatest fights…I lost the fight but I’d never been prouder of myself for the discipline I showed in taking the risks I’d promised myself I’d take and try shots that I was still trying to bed down so I could test them under pressure….many of those risks paid off…not enough for the win but a big win personally.
Players who play to win are ALWAYS rewarded for their boldness, not always on the podium but the act of being disciplined enough to take risks IS its own reward and they ALWAYS pay off in the end…if you’re playing the long game.
Growth is the reward and PRIDE is the reward.
You might be wondering….how does fighting have ANYTHING at all to do with winning in business?
You might be surprised by how many parallels exist on the mat and in business but my point is this….Playing to win will ALWAYS result in a win ….playing to not lose will not.
I want you to be really honest with yourself right now and ask yourself if you’ve been playing to win in your business or if you’ve playing to not lose?
Sometimes you aren’t aware of just how passive you’re being in your business until it’s pointed out…especially if you’ve been keeping yourself “busy”.
Being busy doing the passive things can still feel like progress but when ALL of that effort produces zero result ie: clients on board and money in the bank, it’s time to face up to a few hard facts.
One of those facts being that what you’ve been doing isn’t working.
Another is that means it’s time to shake shit up, take some risks and do things differently if you want to make things happen.
